Category: IG-SRT

Generally, no. Melanoma is not usually treated with superficial radiation because melanoma cells tend to be less responsive to low-dose radiation, and the standard of care for melanoma (even in situ) is surgical removal. IG-SRT is designed for non-melanoma skin cancers like BCC and SCC, and all the clinical studies and FDA clearance are for those indications. If you have a melanoma or lentigo maligna (melanoma in situ), your dermatologist will likely recommend surgical excision or Mohs surgery to ensure clear margins. The one exception might be if a patient is not a surgical candidate and has an inoperable melanoma – in such rare cases, a different type of radiation (high-energy) might be used by an oncologist. But IG-SRT is not indicated for melanoma. It’s focused on the more common, typically less aggressive skin cancers.
