Yes. One of the advantages of IG-SRT is that being on blood thinners (like warfarin, Plavix, Eliquis, etc.) is not a problem at all. With surgery, there’s always the concern of bleeding, so often patients have to adjust or temporarily stop those medications (which can pose its own risks). With IG-SRT, since there’s no cutting, you can safely continue all your blood thinners – no heightened bleeding risk during treatment. We’ve treated many patients on anticoagulation without incident. Likewise, patients with diabetes, circulation issues, or other conditions that might impair wound healing do very well with IG-SRT because there’s no surgical wound to heal. Even those on immunosuppressant drugs (like for rheumatoid arthritis or after a transplant) can undergo IG-SRT; while they might have a slightly brisker skin reaction, they avoid the infection risk of a surgical wound in an immunocompromised state. IG-SRT is often recommended for patients with significant co-morbidities (heart disease, etc.) who might not clear a pre-op evaluation easily – since IG-SRT requires no anesthesia and is low stress on the body, it’s well tolerated. So, if you have health issues that make surgery dicey, IG-SRT is a great alternative. We do, of course, evaluate each patient’s overall health to ensure they can come for treatments and lie still for a few minutes, etc. But generally, chronic health conditions and medications do not exclude you from IG-SRT – in fact, they often make IG-SRT the preferred treatment.
