IG-SRT is used to treat non-melanoma skin cancers, primarily basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). It is effective for invasive forms of these cancers as well as superficial ones and SCC in situ (Bowen’s disease). In clinical practice, IG-SRT has been used on all common subtypes of basal and squamous cell skin cancers. Additionally, IG-SRT is sometimes used to treat certain benign but problematic skin conditions like keloid scars (to prevent them from regrowing after removal), though its main indication is for skin cancer. It’s important to note that IG-SRT is not typically used for melanoma (see below). But for the vast majority of basal and squamous cell skin cancers – which are the most common skin cancers – IG-SRT is a safe and effective treatment option.
