Category: IG-SRT

Good candidates for IG-SRT are patients with basal cell or squamous cell skin cancers (including squamous cell carcinoma in situ) who desire an effective treatment without surgery. You might be an ideal candidate if you prefer to avoid surgery – for instance, if you are uneasy about having a procedure or simply want to skip the cutting, bleeding, and stitching. It’s also great for people who have medical conditions that make surgery riskier or less desirable. For example, if you’re on blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, or have other health issues that would complicate healing, IG-SRT allows treatment without those surgical risks. Cosmetically conscious patients are often good candidates – if your cancer is on the face or another visible area and you want to minimize scarring, IG-SRT is very attractive. Additionally, if you have multiple skin cancers diagnosed at once, IG-SRT can treat several in one go (up to three at a time), whereas doing back-to-back surgeries might be burdensome. Elderly patients who might not tolerate surgery well (or who have a limited life expectancy and want the least invasive approach) are also common IG-SRT candidates. Essentially, if you have a biopsy-confirmed non-melanoma skin cancer and you value the advantages of no surgery – and you can commit to coming for the series of treatments – you are likely a good candidate. Our team will evaluate factors like the size, location, and type of your tumor to confirm it’s suitable. Fortunately, the majority of early-stage BCCs and SCCs are suitable for IG-SRT, so most patients with these cancers can consider themselves potential candidates.
