Category: IG-SRT

There is no lingering radioactivity in your body after an IG-SRT session. The treatment uses X-rays (similar to diagnostic X-rays), which deliver energy to the target and then are gone. They do not make you “emit” radiation afterwards. This is unlike certain internal radiation therapies (for example, radioactive seeds implanted for prostate cancer or radioactive iodine for thyroid conditions) where a patient can temporarily give off radiation – IG-SRT is completely different. As soon as the machine is turned off, there is no radiation present. You can safely be around family members, children, pregnant friends, pets, etc., immediately after each treatment with zero risk to them. You won’t set off any Geiger counters or airport detectors or anything like that. In essence, undergoing IG-SRT is like getting an X-ray: once the X-ray is done, you don’t carry anything with you. So you do not need to take any special precautions or avoid others due to radioactivity – there is none in you after the session ends.
