Category: IG-SRT

No, it will not. Because IG-SRT radiation doesn’t go beyond the skin layers, it will not impact internal organs or tissues like bone, brain, lungs, etc. By the time the X-ray energy has traveled a few millimeters into the skin, it has expended its dose in that area and dissipated. Additionally, we use shielding materials to protect nearby parts of your body just as an extra precaution. For instance, if we’re treating a skin cancer on your nose, we might place lead shields to cover your eyes or a thyroid shield on your neck, even though the radiation wouldn’t likely reach those areas in any meaningful amount. These safety measures ensure no stray radiation reaches sensitive areas. The localized nature of IG-SRT means only the targeted skin gets the therapeutic dose. There is no measurable radiation reaching organs like the liver, kidneys, heart, etc. (assuming we’re treating a lesion on the skin far from those). Even for areas like the scalp or forehead, the radiation doesn’t penetrate through the skull to the brain – superficial radiation is much too low-energy for that. So you can be confident that only the skin cancer and its immediate vicinity are affected, and your internal organs are completely unaffected by IG-SRT.
