Category: IG-SRT

No, it won’t. IG-SRT is very localized, so it doesn’t cause the body-wide side effects that people often associate with cancer treatments like chemotherapy or high-dose radiation. You will not experience nausea, vomiting, or fatigue from IG-SRT. Many patients are pleasantly surprised that they feel completely normal during the weeks of therapy – you don’t “feel radioactive” or ill at all. This is because the treatment only affects a small patch of skin. The rest of your body isn’t involved and doesn’t mount a systemic response. In contrast, when people get radiation to internal organs (like for breast or pelvic cancers), often large volumes are irradiated which can cause tiredness; but IG-SRT’s field is so limited that it does not tax your body’s energy. In studies and patient reports, fatigue is not noted as a side effect of superficial radiation therapy – and our patients typically maintain all their usual activities with no trouble. So you can continue working, exercising, and doing your normal daily tasks without that chemo-like or whole-body radiation-like feeling of exhaustion. Of course, always listen to your body – if you happen to feel a little more tired one day, it could be due to other factors (like the stress of having cancer treated, or other life factors), but IG-SRT itself does not induce generalized sickness or fatigue.
